5 Reasons Every Fitness Plan
Has Failed You

If you have ADHD — this is why.

This is not about effort. It is not about discipline. The plans were never built for your brain. Here is proof.

"If you have tried every programme, every diet, every fresh start — and nothing has ever stuck — I want you to know something. It was never your fault. The plans were built for a different brain."

The 5 reasons

1

Reason One

They rely on willpower — not systems

Every mainstream fitness programme is built on the assumption that you can do something because you decided to do it. That if you just want it enough, the discipline will follow.

ADHD brains cannot sustain action through willpower alone. The neurochemistry is not there. When the initial excitement of a new programme fades — and it always fades — there is nothing holding the plan together.

This is not a character flaw. It is neuroscience. Willpower is an executive function. Executive function is exactly what ADHD affects most.

The fix

Build a system so simple and automatic that it works even on your worst ADHD day. Same days. Same time. No decisions needed. The system does the work — not your willpower.

2

Reason Two

They are built around consistency — not dopamine

Neurotypical fitness plans assume you can do something because it is important. Because it is on the plan. Because you said you would.

ADHD brains run on the Interest Based Nervous System. We are motivated by interest, urgency, challenge and reward — not by importance. Without a goal that genuinely excites your brain, the plan will always fail eventually.

This is why you can hyper-focus on something you love for six hours and not be able to do one workout you are not excited about. Same brain. Different fuel.

The fix

Find the goal your brain actually wants to chase. Not a vague goal — a specific, real, exciting target your hyper-focus can lock onto. When that goal is right, everything changes.

3

Reason Three

They ignore blood sugar and brain chemistry

Most fitness plans focus on what you eat without understanding why ADHD brains struggle with food in the first place.

ADHD brains have lower baseline dopamine. Food — especially sugar and processed food — provides a fast dopamine hit. Skipping meals causes blood sugar crashes that make every ADHD symptom significantly worse. Restricting food tanks dopamine even further.

Time blindness means ADHD brains often forget to eat all day and then binge when hunger suddenly hits. This is not poor willpower. It is neurological.

The fix

Fuel your brain first. Protein at every meal, healthy fats daily, regular eating times. Stable blood sugar means stable focus, stable mood and far fewer ADHD crashes.

4

Reason Four

They give you too many decisions

Meal plans with 50 different options. Training programmes with alternative exercises. Flexible schedules. Choose your own rest days. All presented as freedom — but for an ADHD brain, this is a disaster.

Decision fatigue is real and it hits ADHD brains harder and faster than neurotypical brains. Every decision required is another opportunity for the plan to collapse. The more flexible the system, the less an ADHD brain will use it.

The fix

Simplicity is a superpower. Three breakfasts. Three lunches. Three dinners. Three training days. Same every week. Boring on paper — extraordinary in practice.

5

Reason Five

They do not address the inner narrative

Every fitness plan focuses on the body. Almost none address what happens inside the head of someone who has been starting over for years.

ADHD brains carry a loud inner critic — built from years of being told to try harder, being called lazy, failing at things that seemed easy for everyone else. That narrative runs on a loop. And it is louder than any training plan.

When you miss a session and your brain says "I knew it — I always do this" — that thought will undo more progress than any missed workout ever could.

The fix

The rewiring. Learning to notice the inner critic without becoming it. Talking to yourself like someone worth showing up for. This is not separate from the physical work — it is the foundation of it.

"The Rewired Method was built to fix all five."
